The questions how and why are the error.

The error is agency, how something is an agent in action and why it does what it does and has what it has.

Agency is the error of persons and personification, particularly as the self, the subject pronoun 'I' and object pronoun 'me', but also the reflexive subject pronoun 'myself'.

The covid spiel is sheer Brave New World.

The error of which covid and the like (waves of pandemics, re. Fauci) is the end of meaning (not the infamous Apocalypse). The error is that we and even worse, other things exist beyond the meaning (word) that everything is.

I seriously point to the 'do something'(or not) strategy as exactly the error that is the mayhem, especially in abject submission to the propaganda of a kind of collective-narcissistic mindfulness, i.e., oceanically fused 'together' of a tearfully and fearfully severe struggle with supercilious leadership equanimity.

How about point-i as the new existence, the idea that thinking-or-not is the error? That mind-and-consciousness with knowledge regressed to psychologism is THE ABYSS (after the already regressed Creation-explanation, THE FALL) of self-deception, fallacy and mental disorder respectively by which we are zombies, junkies and crazies.

Whichever side of the 'struggle' we join, we are falling for THE ABYSS of 'posthumanism', slavishly following the artificial intelligence modeling used by psychopath-technocrat leadership to callously profit (fear-monger) on the supposed life-and-death of others.

The world is predominately insane, risking novel science of coronavirus vaccines (never before developed) to cure a disease with a 99.94% survival rate (based on Sweden).

Variolation, the use of low doses of the real disease, seems a safer path, but then you cannot patent this, so corporations have no interest. i.e. Combining profit with health is a very foolish and dangerous thing to do!
