Psychotherapy attempts to restore a person's relationship to the social norms and regulations, while psychoanalysis works to restore a person's relationship to their sexuality. Psychotherapy works to strengthen the ego, while psychoanalysis works to strengthen the subject's relationship to their own unconscious.
