The masculine, the West or animus is awe ABOUT the world (about matters) in the ecstasy of war-and-peace, i.e., power—for order.

Anima

The feminine, the East or anima is awe AT power (at empowered spirits, like the homunculi, the soul or the psyche) in the ecstasy of love-and-hate—for chaos.

The female baboon is half the size of the male, with canines one quarter the length, and hence she is not designed for fighting. Inheriting her social position from her mother, all she needs in order to acquire full citizenship is a fruitful womb. While the males burn testosterone and file their teeth (and die), she has the young to nourish and play with, and her world, as Tiger (1974) suggests, is realistic in a sense that his is symbolic; for while her attention is principally focused on things as they are, his is absorbed in a theater full of signs and codes where an invisible thing called status is being constantly negotiated. And yet, although his theater of dominance rituals distracts him from the play of things as they are, it is by no means simply footling; for it sustains the law that in moments of danger saves the group from disintegration.
